How does PENDIUM differ from the traditional publishing houses?
PENDIUM allows you, the author, to retain exclusive rights to your work without losing creative control. Unlike the major publishing houses, your book never goes out of print and you’re always an A-list author with us. In addition, we don’t
determine whether we’ll publish
you again by your last book’s
sales history. Our doors are always
open regardless of whether you’ve
sold ten books or ten thousand. |
| |
How is PENDIUM like a traditional publishing house? |
Each title accepted under PENDIUM is required to receive editing before it is released into the market, whether by us or an editor the author has contracted on their own. In order to maintain our integrity in what we deliver within the publishing industry, editing is essential. Like traditional publishing houses, PENDIUM offers industry-standard discounts to retailers in order that your book is not disadvantaged in any way in the marketplace. And to help insure your success and provide that added advantage in the literary arena, PENDIUM publishes under several imprints focused on specific genres related to each author's work. . |
| |
How
does publishing with PENDIUM work? |
Print-on-demand publishing allows
your book to be printed whenever there’s an order placed. It is very cost-effective for the author because it eliminates the need for you to house or order thousands of books at a time. |
| |
Does it cost me,
as an author, anything to publish
my book with PENDIUM? |
Even though we accept manuscripts that we believe to have true potential, PENDIUM does charge for cost associated with publishing your book. Note that PENDIUM seperates itself from other On Demand publishers by allowing our authors to receive 100% of their royalties on all bookstore sales. You don't share a dime with us, as we've designed PENDIUM to be advantageous to our authors and their success. |
| |
Does PENDIUM
have any sample book covers that have
been done that I can view? |
Please be assured that we employ nothing but the best graphic designers, artists, and illustrators - many of whom have worked on the covers of best-selling books. And because we're more concerned with quality than quantity, you can expect nothing but the very best in the work we produce. View recent titles and the book covers associated by clicking here. |
| |
Will
my book be on bookstore shelves? |
Bookstores will be able to search for, find, and order your book on-demand. Your book will be accessible to over 25,000 book retailers, both brick-and-mortar and online. But with any brick-and-mortar bookstore, shelf space is limited and books are stocked mostly due to customer demand. It's impossible to house every author that has ever written a book on the shelf of your local Barnes & Noble or Books-a-Million. Be aware that your book being on a bookstore shelf doesn't guarantee or determine whether your book will sell. |
| |
What discount
is offered to bookstores and online
venues such as Amazon.com? |
PENDIUM offers the industry standard discount of up to 55% to retailers, such as Amazon.com, Barnes & Noble, etc. in order that your book is not disadvantaged in any way. |
| |
Is PENDIUM a vanity or subsidy press? |
Absolutely not. These types of presses charge authors thousands of dollars for production and thousands more for print runs. Many will produce your book without any publishing standards in what they deliver to the literary community. To them, your money is more important than your book. PENDIUM produces your book at the lowest cost possible and allows you to receive 100% of your royalties on all bookstore sales. In addition, you pay only the printing cost when you need copies of your book for any reason. Other On Demand publishers will just offer you a discount off the list price. |
| |
Is PENDIUM selective in the books it chooses to publish? |
Because it is always our corporate goal to publish quality works that add value to the world of literature, we reserve the right to be selective in the material we choose to publish. We firmly believe that our authors and their work represent PENDIUM to the fullest degree. In addition, we want you, as a potential author of PENDIUM to know that you're associated with a publisher who stands for excellence in the publishing industry. |
| |
Will PENDIUM own the rights to my work? |
You, the author, will retain exclusive
rights to your work. By doing so, you
have complete autonomy to pursue other
literary avenues without giving up control
for five years or more as the case with
some traditional publishing houses. |
| |
Will I need to be a new author to have my work published with PENDIUM?
No, we welcome new and established writers under our umbrella. Many established authors will find the PENDIUM Program to be better than their current publisher. |
| |
How long will
it take for my book to be published? |
Unlike traditional publishers where it can take up to a year or more before your book is released, PENDIUM will have your book complete within 90 to 120 days, depending on your level of needs and the time of your submission.. Note that editing is done on a first-come first-served basis. At any time, there is a possibility that there are several manuscripts waiting for editing. These are edited in the order they are received. Your patience will be rewarded with a professionally edited manuscript for your review. |
| |
What book formats does PENDIUM PUBLISHING offer? |
Your book can be published in paperback or hardcover. |
| |
Can I use a book
cover I’ve already had designed? |
In cases where the author already has an existing book cover, PENDIUM may allow the author to use his or her own with the understanding that the cover must be approved by PENDIUM and meet certain standards of professionalism and design criteria before being accepted. Any book cover that we deem to give the appearance of a self-published book will not be approved. In addition, the cover must also meet our design specifications (click here). If your cover does not meet our guidelines, PENDIUM will have to design a new cover for you before proceeding to publication. It should be noted that PENDIUM only designs covers that portray the theme of the author's work effectively. |

How does the PENDIUM editing service work? |
PENDIUM offers two levels of professional editing services. Click here for details. To search for a professional editor on your own, we recommend you visit Elance.com. |
| |
Can I skip the editing part of the PENDIUM process? |
To maintain the highest of standards in the publishing industry and the products we introduce, the process of editing is mandatory at PENDIUM. Very seldom does any manuscript contain zero errors and, therefore, we cannot publish your book if you wish to omit this process. We do allow our potential authors to either use PENDIUM for editing or contract their own professional editor outside of PENDIUM. For freelance editing services, we recommend you visit Elance.com. |
| |
What’s the best way to submit my manuscript?
Your most cost-effective option is to submit your manuscript and all required submission material online, but you may do so by mail if you prefer. |
| |
How will my book be priced? |
The following table reflects pricing for books set up for world-wide distribution. Final book pricing is determined after the manuscript has gone through the production phase and has been trimmed to the selected trim size of either 5x8 or 5.5x8.5. The following table is not a guarantee, but only an estimate of how PENDIUM book pricing is determined.
Book Size |
Word Count |
Price Range |
107 (or less) |
20,000 (or less) |
$8.95 - $10.95 |
108 - 200 pages |
30,000-56,000 |
$10.95 - $12.95 |
204 - 300 pages |
56,000-80,000 |
$13.95 - $16.95 |
304 - 400 pages |
80,000-110,000 |
$17.95 - $20.95 |
404 - 500 pages |
110,000-140,000 |
$21.95 - $23.95 |
Pricing by PENDIUM takes into consideration that most booksellers, such as Amazon.com, will discount your book once placed on their site. For example, if PENDIUM priced your book at $14.95, Amazon would discount your title and sell it at $10.47 to their customers - resulting in an even better price for your readers. Note that even though a retailer may discount your book, PENDIUM bases your royalties on the price we set your book at and monies collected from these sales. |
| |
How does author
royalties work when publishing with
PENDIUM? |
Note that the average royalty rate paid to authors by traditional publishers is 10.7%. Other on-demand publishers pay a royalty rate between 15% and 30%. PENDIUM pays a royalty rate of 100% for all bookstore sales in order for you to recoup any upfront investment.
Royalties are paid within 30 to 45 days after the end of each quarter ending in March, June, September, and December.
Royalties on printed books = 100% (sold through Amazon, Barnes & Noble, etc.)
Royalties on printed books = 75% (when ordered from PENDIUM's website)
Let’s say your book has a cover price on Amazon.com of $16.95. Subtract the Amazon.com 55% trade discount ($16.95 x .55 = $9.32) from the list price and that leaves $7.62 ($16.95 - $9.32). Then subtract printing cost ($3.30). The remainder ($4.32) from this is the profit margin, 100% of which is the royalty paid to the author.
Royalties on this same book sold through the PENDIUM's website:
$16.95 cover price - $3.30 printing charge = $13.65 (profit margin). $13.65 - $3.42 (25% / PENDIUM) = $10.23 author royalty (75%). (cost of shipping/handling not reflected in example)

Will PENDIUM
provide me with a proof for review?
And is it possible to make changes
and suggestions? |
Once the production of your book is complete, we will provide you with a free pdf proof prior to submitting it to the printer. This pdf will be the formatted version of your book that the printer will receive. It is extremely important that you review the proof and are satisfied with the work at this stage. If any changes are needed to this formatted pdf, PENDIUM will make up to 15 free changes as a courtesy. Any desired changes to the formatted pdf beyond 15 will incur a charge of $3.50 per change. Once your book has been submitted to the printer, there is an $85.00 charge for the resubmission of any new files (i.e. bookcover, interior file, etc.). If you desire a printed proof (hardcopy cover/interior) mailed to you then there is a cost of $45 charged by the printer. |
| |
What size books
do you offer? |
Trade paperbacks come with 4-color covers and are available in two (2) trim sizes:
5" x 8" / 5.5" x 8.5"
Hardcover titles come with 4-color covers and are only available in the 5.5" x 8.5" size.
| |
When
will I receive royalty statements? |
Along with payments of $25 or more due to you, royalty statements are mailed within 45 days of the end of the quarter - detailing your earnings from sales. We will also provide you a phone number directly to Ingram that will permit you to receive information on your sales through their automated line at anytime. |
| |
What discounts
do I receive when purchasing my book
as a PENDIUM author? |
Instead of offering you a discount off the list price of your book like most On Demand publishers, each time you purchase copies of your title from us you will only pay the actual printing cost that is incurred to produce your book. If your book cost $3.30 to print, you pay only $3.30 per book (plus shipping/handling) when you order copies.
| |
